Indigenous Culures: The Survival of the Maya of Mesoamerica
In this chapter we will focus on the cconflict indigenous peoples face regarding keeping their traditional cultures while adapting to modern times. We will focus on the Maya of Central America and will work on an accompaning Map of Central America (Physical & Political).
Daily Lesson Plan
Objectives
- Identify and Label physical and political features on a map (Central America).
- Define and Explain the importance of key geographic terms.
- Identify the success and challenges of indigenous peoples around the world in maintaining their traditional cultures in the modern world.
Procedures
1) Students will be allowed five minutes to study for a pop quiz over their D.O.G. notes. It will be an open note quiz.
2) The class will check the Central America Physical/Political Map.
3) The class will discuss the Essential Question.
4) Students will work as partners on the ISN page 78 worksheet.
5) The class will discuss ISN page 78.
6) The class will read page 151 & 152 from Geography Alive (popcorn reading).
7) Students will complete ISN page 79 (Geo Terms) individually. This will be due next class.
Assessment
D.O.G Quiz – (Formative) Students will be assessed on the quiz with a grade ranging from 0 to 100.
ISN (page 78) – (Formative) The class will have a discussion on this.
