2/24 (Red)

Daily Lesson Plan

Objectives

- Identify and Answer Daily Oral Geography questions using map skills.
- Identify the success and challenges of indigenous peoples around the world in maintaining their traditional cultures in the modern world.

Procedures

1) Students will answer two D.O.G. questions followed by a class discussion over them.
2) The class will discuss the Essential Question. This will be done with all students participating. I will ask which students think they can define/explain the term indigenous peoples. I will ask these students to write this down on a piece of paper and then stand around the perimeter of the room when their finished (with the paper in hand). The rest of the students will huddle into the center of the room. I will then explain that the students in the center of the room are Mayans, and the students around the perimeter are Spanish Conquistadors. The middle of the room will repeat after me that they are in Central America. I will then give instructions that the Conquistadors will get their piece of paper and wad it up. When I yell attack the Conquistadors will throw their paper at the Mayan’s (no head shots). The Mayans will then open the paper wads and read the definitions out loud. We will then relate this to the essential question.
3) Students will work in Groups on their Mayan Section Dramatization. The goal for today is for all groups to complete their scripts and start creating their props.

Assessment
D.O.G. Questions – (Formative) The class will discuss these.
Essential Question Activity – (Formative) Students will participate in the
dramatization. I will also ask at the end of the period for students to raise their hands if they feel like they can explain the term indigenous peoples. I will call on volunteers to explain and I will note the amount of students that feel they can explain the term compared to the amount at the beginning of class.
Mayan Dramatization – (Formative) I will circulate around the room. Groups also need me to sign off on their script before moving to the next step
